Bell's Whisky

Having previously worked for a drinks company prior to joining the company in 1837 Arthur Bell of Bells Whisky was finally asked to become a partner in 1851. Experience gained from previous jobs with in the Whisky industry allowed Bell to envision great opportunities with in the Blended Whiskey market. This prompted him to travel around Scotland and the isles in search of quality Malt Whisky to infuse with his own whisky blends. He went against the usually method of blending whisky. Instead of searching for newer, lower quality whisky, he actively sought out only well aged, properly matured Whisky. As a result of this search he gained very high standards with regards to his own Bells Whisky, securing him solid reputation as a man of whisky.

In the beginning Arthur Bell believed he didn’t need a brand to sell his whisky blends, relying on the quality of his whisky alone. That is why none of the bottles in the early days featured the Bells label. In 1904 his sons accompanied him in running the business, convincing him to release their new whisky under the name Arthur Bell & Sons Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky.

Bells Whisky even took things a step further with regards to branding in 1925, issuing the company motto on to the bottles, “afore ye go” the term was from the First World War a few years prior, when they used to send cases of Bell Whisky to the docks for the soldiers to drink “afore” they went. With Whisky Blends made from over thirty-five different Whiskies aged around five to twelve years, Bells is the UK’s best selling Blended Scotch Whisky today.
